How long will points remain on my Vermont license?

Points remain for two years from the date of conviction.

How many points will cause a Vermont license to be suspended?

When at least 10 points have been accumulated in a two-year period the following suspensions will apply:

10 points = 10-day suspension

15 points = 30-day suspension

20 points = 90-day suspension

30 additional days for each 5 points over 20.

Is a traffic violation considered a criminal offense?

No.  In Vermont a traffic violation is a civil matter (not criminal) involving the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner which violates state statute or municipal ordinance.  A traffic violation in Vermont has no term of imprisonment.  The fine must be $1,000.00 or less.
